New electronic toll system in Czech Republic

Since 1 December 2019, a new toll collection system for vehicles over 3.5 tons will be introduced in the Czech Republic. The existing on-board units (OBU) devices will stop operating for Czech Republic, all trucks must register into the new Electronic Toll System. The change requires a new OBU.

Pre-registration to the new Electronic Toll System has been started 22nd September 2019.

Registration for MOL GROUP CARD Customers:

In case of pre-payment:

Registration can be done directly on many MOL filling stations.

At these points can be done truck registration, OBU pick-up, OBU top-up with the MOL Group Card. The refundable deposit is 2468 CZK per unit (the deposit can be paid here by MOL Group Card).

In case of registration at Points of Sale, it is necessary to have all necessary documents, like

  • all vehicle registration certificates
  • emission class certificates (if it's not stated in vehicle registration certificate),
  • ID card or power of attorney.
  • If you pay by Fuel Card, it is also necessary to present all Fuel Cards which will be used to pay tolls.

Online registration is not available for fuel card users (OBU can be paid through online only by cash or bankcard).

In case of post-payment:

Post-pay through MOL Group card is possible as well, must visit one of 15 Contact points and can apply for post-pay with MOL Group Card. No application for MGC online (only bank cards are accepted for online registration).

Upon successful registration, a registered OBU must be installed in a Czech toll-paying vehicle by 1 December 2019 at the latest. The new on-board unit will not automatically charge tolls until the new system is started. Fee will not be charged twice because the original system will be disabled.

The old Premid-unit will stop working at midnight from November 30 to December 1. It is necessary to have the new OBU in the truck until 30th November. From December 1 is acceptable only the new OBU.

From December 1 you can return the current unit and get back your deposit. For returning the old on-board unit, please, contact the current provider - company Kapsch. New toll provider is not allowed to receive old previous OBU to previous toll system.

What kind of steps will you need to take?

  1. Registration of your vehicles in the toll system.
  2. OBU pick up at the Point of Sales.
  3. Fill up your device (pre-paid unit) at Point of Sales.
  4. Install the OBU at the vehicle
  5. Use the new OBU from 1 December 2019
